Crème de Cassis is a blood-red, sweet, blackcurrant-flavored liqueur, and is an ingredient of kir, an apéritif. The modern version of the drink first appeared in the Burgundy region in 1841, displacing "ratafia de cassis" from prior centuries. It is made from blackcurrants crushed into refined alcohol, with sugar subsequently added. While crème de cassis is a specialty of Burgundy, it is made in other cities of France, as well as in Luxembourg and Quebec.

The quality of crème de cassis depends on the variety of fruit used as well as content of the berries and the fabrication process. With the label "Crème de Cassis de Dijon" one is guaranteed berries from the commune of Dijon. An Interprofessional Syndicate has tried since 1997 to obtain an "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée" for "Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne" which would guarantee both the origin and variety of fruit, as well as the number of berries in the recipe used in the manufacture.

Nearly 16 million litres of crème de cassis are produced annually, consumed mostly in France, but also exported.

Several cocktails are made with crème de cassis, including Kir.

It is the favourite drink of the fictional detective Hercule Poirot by Agatha Christie.

Set Windows as Default OS when Dual Booting Ubuntu

When you install a dual-boot of Ubuntu, one of the frustrating things that you'll immediately notice is that Ubuntu is now set as the default operating system in the Grub loader. There's an easy way to switch back to using Windows as the default.

To make this change, you'll first have to boot into Ubuntu, and then run the following command:

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Find this section of the file:

# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.

# You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
# WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not change this entry to 'saved' or your
# array will desync and will not let you boot your system.
default 0

The important line is the last one. You will need to change that number 0 to match the Windows boot section. Typically it's always going to be 4 on a default dual-boot configuration. Change this value to 4, and then save and reboot your machine. You should go into Windows instead of Ubuntu automatically.

Note: The blocks at the bottom of the file match the items in the menu. You can change this value to match whichever item you want as default, just remember that numbering starts at 0.

A Punt Pedalo

A pedalo is a form of water borne transport, primarily for recreational use, powered through the use of foot pedals.

They are sometimes available for rental on small park lakes. A common type of pedalo allows for two people to sit side by side, pedalling together. In America and Australia, these types of boats are colloquially referred to as paddle boat.

Did u know??

i have this weird thing...call it obsession or craving for knowledge :)
every time now that i come across new topic or something i had a vague idea bout i need to google it, or Wiki.

this wasn't b4 the net came about.... i never took the trouble of going through dictionaries or encyclopedias to hunt and increase my bank of knowledge ( which is like short lived RAM anyway )

but now i spend so much time on the net, and instead of making 'free money' like other net idlers...
i prefer Googling or Wikiing.
